Mrs. Piss to release «Self-Surgery» debut

Back when Chelsea Wolfe released «Hiss Spun» in 2017, Jess Gowrie, who had been in Red Host with Chelsea Wolfe back in the naughts, became the live drummer for the project. In the time since, the two musicians created a project together called Mrs. Piss, which from the two songs already made public will definitely lean towards the grungy and gloomy side of heavy rook. Per the record’s press release, as the songs took form, they felt “more urgent and visceral than anything either of them created before: heaviness spurred on by punk spirit.” Later this month, the duo will release its first album, titled «Self-Surgery» and whose artwork you can see below.

Talking about the new project, vocalist and guitarist Chelsea Wolfe explains that working on this project brought Jess and I so much closer as songwriters and production partners, after reuniting as friends and bandmates,” adding that it was “freeing and fun to channel some wild energies that I don’t typically put into my own music.” Her songwriting partner, drummer, bassist, guitarist, and programmer Jess Gowrie, also explained her perspective on the new band, “to me, Mrs. Piss represents a musical chemistry cut short long ago that now gets a second chance. Creating with Chelsea has always been very liberating for me, and we both push each other to try new things: anything and everything.” Below, find the video for the album’s second song, «Downer Surrounded By Uppers».

In her statement describing the road to «Self-Surgery», Gowrie contrasted the anger in the songs with the fan they had creating them, saying that “with the journeys we had to take separately to get there, we both have so much more to say; so much more pain and anger to express. That said, we also had a lot of fun doing it, not to mention how freeing it is to not give a fuck and to just create.” Wolfe, on the other hand, contrasted the spontaneity in the creative process with how seriously they took their craft, whilst leaving us with an interesting plan for future recordings, “we tried not to overthink the songs as we were writing them, but at the same time we did consciously put a lot into crafting them into our own weird sonic vision. This project was a chance for us to do things our own way, on our own terms, and we plan to invite more womxn musicians along for future Mrs. Piss recordings.” Below, find the video for the album’s third song, «Knelt».

«Self-Surgery» is set for release on May 29 through Sargent House. Pre-orders of the album in digital format can be found here. You can follow Mrs. Piss on Instagram.
