French post rock collective Oiseaux-Tempête have announced the upcoming release of a live album entitled «طرب TARAB». The record results from last year’s «AL-’AN ! الآن (And your night is your shadow — a fairy-tale piece of land to make our dreams)» tour, which lead them from Europe to Canada and eventually to Lebanon. For this tour, founding members Fréderic D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul were joined by renowned electronic music artist Modkopf, G. W. Sok (The Ex), Sylvain Joasson (Mendelson), Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart), Lebanese musicians Charbel Haber, Abed Kobeissy, and Ali El Hout, and video makers As Human Pattern (who are the authors of this article’s cover picture above). Below, you can listen to the record’s fifth track «Tuesday And The Weather Is Clear», which features G. W. Sok’s on vocals.
As the press release explains, the studio compositions were “stretched, deconstructed and rearranged”, a process which included the addition of spoken word performances of «Grasse Matinée» by Jacques Prévert and «Tuesday And The Weather Is Clear» by Mahmoud Darwish (as seen above). The official statement further goes on to recall that the musicians were arranged “in a semicircle,” thus “inviting the spectator to spiral with them, entwined in the sonic explosions, finding beauty and peace in the spaces of improvisation and elaboration.”

The recordings made throughout the tour were done by Romain Piorier and Benjamin Pagier, whilst Oiseaux-Tempête carried on the subsequent editing duties. «طرب TARAB» was then mixed by Romain Poirier and Jean-Charles Bastion at Met Noir, Paris, and mastered by Gabriel Severin at Le Laboratoire Central, in Brussels.

«طرب TARAB» is set for release on June 22 via Sub Rosa in cd and vinyl formats. Pre-orders are available here, while the digital version can be ordered here. The original record in which «طرب TARAB» is based, «AL-’AN ! الآن (And your night is your shadow — a fairy-tale piece of land to make our dreams)», can be found, heard, and purchased in this location.
