In less than two weeks, hardcore trio Halshug is set two deliver another dose of d-beat mastery by way of their third album «Drøm», their first since 2016’s «Sort Sind». According to the album’s press release, it sees the band expanding “their sound from the dirge-driven d-beat of their earlier albums,” allowing them to explore “the dynamics of longer songs, more audible lyrics, and altered tempos, which result in different shades of industrial, dark-wave, and post-punk.”
The first example thereof came with the album’s first single, «Fantasi», described by the band as “a song about getting lost in each other’s fantasies” and whose video, directed by Christopher Leo Andersen, can be seen below.
Subsequently, Halshug unveiled the record’s opening track, «Kӕmper Imod», which you can hear below. Speaking to Circuit Sweet, guitarist Mathias Schønberg referred to Smashing Pumpkins as an inspiration to the guitar parts and stated that it is “a song about losing. The title translates to ‘resisting’ or ‘fighting back’ but the lyrics are defeatist as hell”, further explaining that “back when crust-punk was big there was often a sense of resist-to-exist kind of encouragement in the music – there is none of that in this one.”
«Drøm» is set for release on July 19 through Southern Lord Recordings on digital and vinyl formats. Pre-orders are available at this location.
