Californian death metal trio Putrescine has announced the release of its first full-length effort, «The Fading Flame». After an EP and a couple of singles, which can be streamed at the bottom of this piece, the band recorded the upcoming album early last year, with their own Zac Sanders (guitar, bass, and synths) handling production duties.
The band’s already established antifascist perspective shines through, particularly on the second half of the album, with vocalist and drum programmer Marie McAuliffe explaining that “‘That Mountain’ is about surviving trauma and was written at a very low point in my life. ‘Outsider’ is a bitter cry against the well off queers who historically sold out the gay rights movement and killed its radical element. It’s a message about class unity being more powerful than liberal concepts of identity.” The album’s cover art was created by Carlos Agraz and is an interpretation of Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls, with the thrones and the creatures pictured being a representation of the Lords of Cinder, “a notable influence on the first tracks on the record.” Below, you can listen to one such early tracks, «Devour of Gods».
«The Fading Flame» is set for release on March 26 through Tridroid Records on cassette, cd, digital, and vinyl formats. Pre-orders are available here (digital) and here (cassette, cd, and vinyl).
Below, you can listen to the Putrescine‘s previous endeavours in chronological order. Note that most of that material will be included in «The Fading Flame» in one format or another, so the previously embedded «Devour of Gods» is not the first peek one can take at the upcoming album.
The «The One Reborn» EP was independently released on August 15, 2019, and is available in digital format here. It should be noted that the EP is set to come as bonus tracks of the cd version of «The Fading Flame» and that a cassette was issued by Tridroid Records last year, which can be found here.
The «Reek Of Putrescine» single was independently released on March 31, 2020, and is available in digital format here. The first song of the single will be part of «The Fading Flame», while its second song, «Her Stillborn Body» is one of the two bonus tracks included in the cassette edition. The second bonus track of that edition was released as part of the «Devour of Gods» single, can be heard below, and is the glorious anti-terf hymn «With Blood of TERF and Chaser»”.
The «Devour of Gods» single was independently released on May 1, 2020, and is available in digital format here.
