Late September will see the release of the second Succumb LP. The quartet that emerged from the ashes of Cloak in 2017, with Bosse-de-Nage‘s drummer Harry Cantwell taking over from N, released its self-titled debut through The Flenser on the same year and is now back for a second dose of blackened death, entitled «XXI». As explained in the press release, this time they set out “to make an album that feels more immediate & unpredictable, with a more aggressive production and the vocals much more front & centre.” With regards to the content of those vocals by Cheri Musrasrik, she cites “authors and poets like Yeats, Genet and Zola as her primary lyrical influences. XXI sees an allegorical look at the elements and their related mythologies. Talks about Lilith, the Orphic poems, ocean and nature deities, Dionysus, Arthurian literature, fly agaric as soma, the cosmic egg, and the Boxer Rebellion.” A first glimpse into «XXI» can be taken below by way of «Okeanos», the album’s third song.
«XXI» is set for release on September 24 via The Flenser on cd, digital, and vinyl formats. Pre-orders can be found here.
Naturally, you can stream the band’s self-titled debut below. It was released by The Flenser on May 5, 2017, and can still be found on cd, digital, and vinyl formats at this location.
