Utrecht’s one-man black metal band Verwoed is set to release its first full-length, «De Val» later this summer. This will be the long anticipated successor to debut EP «Bodemloos», whose release in 2016 and subsequent stream of live shows grabbed so much attention that the band has now performed at back to back editions of Roadburn. Just before this year’s performance, where material from «De Val» was performed, the band released the album’s title track, which you can hear below.
As with «Bodemloos», music and lyrics were written by Erik Bleijenberg, whilst recording, mixing, and mastering duties befell JB van der Wal, who is also Verwoed’s live bass player these days. Finally, the fantastic artwork displayed above is a painting by Joost Vervoort, acrylic paint with brush and knife. «De Val» is set for release this Summer through Argento Records.
Speaking with Decibel regarding the upcoming album, the band’s author Erik B. pointed out that the record’s title refers to Lucifer’s “fall from paradise and breaking free from rules, law and tyranny“, with the latter portion being further noted as an appropriate reflection of what Verwoed is about.
