Come early April, Rotterdam’s GOLD will release their fourth album «Why Aren’t You Laughing?», just two years after the acclaimed «Optimist». So far, their story is one that started with a strong but vague promise, «Interbellum» is the kind of record whose open-ended aesthetic could have led to a lot of apparently natural follow-ups, took a giant step in «No Image», where one can say that the band found their voice, and has since seen them refining their approach in «Optimist».
The new album begins with «He Is Not», which as singer Milena Eva explained to Kerrang “is about losing someone and dealing with that void and the absurdity of living, while he is not.” Below, you can see the beautiful video for the song, directed by Sophie Gipmans.
«Why Aren’t You Laughing?» is set for release through Artoffact Records on April 5 on cd, digital, and vinyl formats. Pre-orders are available here and here. It was recorded Jaime Gomez Arellano at the Orgone Studios and features artwork by Daniëlle Van Ark, which you can see below.
The European release tour of «Why Aren’t You Laughing?» has also been announced and it will see GOLD perform on series of venues throughout centre Europe in a series bookended by Tilburg’s Roadburn Festival and Clisson’s Hellfest. All dates can be seen below.
